A herbalist has been arrested by the Police in
Lagos for selling a five-year-old girl he
abducted for N60,000 to another herbalist
for ritual purpose.
The 57-year-old suspect, identified as Tunde
Ajibolorunsoro, popularly known as
Professor, was alleged to have abducted the
minor in Meiran area of Lagos State on
September 25.
When the case of the missing child was
reported by her parents at Meiran Division,
the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State
Police command, Imohimi Edgal, personally
led policemen to the herbalist's place,
following a tip-off.
The little girl, as gathered, was later rescued
from the house of another herbalist,
Tajudeen Makanjuola, who Ajibolorunsoro
was alleged to have sold her to.
The Command boss said: "The suspects
specialised in kidnapping and selling of
children.
"After the father of the girl reported the
case, investigation started, during which it
was revealed that Ajibolorunsoro, alias
Professor, sold Aishat to Makanjuola, alias
Oluwo."
It's a lie—Suspect
However, when approached, Ajibolorunsoro
described the claim as a lie.
He said: "Yes, I am a herbalist. But I do not
know anything about this matter. I was sitting
outside my house, Wednesday evening, when
I saw a search party which claimed to be
looking for a five-year-old girl.
"I advised them to report at the Police
Station. They said they had done so. But to
my shock, I was woken up from sleep by
noise outside.
"When I came out to find out what was
happening, they accused me of abducting the
missing child. Some of them conducted a
search round my apartment, but did not find
the missing child.
"The Police later arrested me. I do not know
when I confessed to have stolen the child and
sold to another herbalist. I said it out of
duress."
On his part, his alleged partner in crime,
Makanjuola, 65, also denied having anything
to do with the missing girl, saying "Professor
said he was tortured to confess and that was
why he mentioned me.
"If I know anything about this matter, may I
die mysteriously."
