Governor Abdulaziz Yari insists meningitis is punishment from God

- Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state insists the meningitis

outbreak ravaging parts of the country is God's punishment for

peoples' sins



- Yari says he will prove to the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi,

from the Quran and content of the Hadith where he got his facts from



- The governor states that this meningitis outbreak ravaging the

country is of type B and type C which has limited vaccines



Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state has responded to the comments

made by the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, over the meningitis

outbreak, insisting that the outbreak of the disease indeed has a

spiritual undertone.



CAMPUSNAIJA.info recalls that the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi,

had faulted statement credited to Yari that the meningitis outbreak

was God's punishment for peoples' sins.

The Emir, speaking at KADINVEST 2.0, an event organised by the Kaduna

sate government to encourage investments on Wednesday, April 5, said

the explanation by the governor about the meningitis outbreak was

Islamically incorrect to make.



However, the Zamfara state governor has stuck to his position, adding

that he is ready show the Emir from the Quran and content of the

Hadith where he got his fact from, Channels TV reports.



He said:" I stand by my words that if people do not change, God will

not change for them.



Therefore, I will answer the Emir perfectly and give him the Quran

content of the Hadith where I belong to and where I have my fact.



"For instance, I made mention that in the past we have Type A, which

vaccines have been brought and they have vaccinated over four million

doses in 2011.



"We are now having Type B and Type C which they don't even know. At

the Centre for Disease Control in Chicago where we get our vaccines

from, they only have five million."



Meanwhile, the House of Representatives has resolved to investigate

federal government's handling of the recent outbreak of meningitis in

parts of the country as the death toll from the disease across several

states increased to 336.

The House has therefore mandated its committee on healthcare services

to invite the minister of health, Prof Isaac Adewole, to brief it on

the ministry's efforts in combating the scourge.



CAMPUSNAIJA.info learnt that the lower chamber also instructed the

committee to ensure there was no scarcity of the vaccine to treat

patients and report back to the house within two weeks, the News
