FG saves N19bn from travels and sitting allowances in new cost-cutting measures

‎‎- Findings showed that N10 billion was saved within this time through restriction on the number of times a civil servant can travel for official engagements 

- Another N5billion is also to be saved from travel discounts from airline companies 

- The savings were made through the efficiency unit of the federal government in the ministry of finance under Kemi Adeosun Leadership is reporting that the federal government has been able to save about N19 billion in the last one year through cost cutting measures.

 According to the report, the huge amount was saved from expenses past administrations incurred on travels and sitting allowances.‎

‎CAMPUSNAIJA.info gathered that N15billion was saved from government circulars issued on the class and frequency of travel and travel discounts alone between November 2015 and 2016 based on figures from previous years on travels. Further breakdown showed that N10 billion was saved within this time through restriction on the number of times a civil servant can travel for official engagements, the class they can fly and processes of travels, including international travels. Additional N5billion would also be saved from travel discounts from airline companies. The discount ranges from 5-50 per cent.

‎The head of Efficiency Unit of the federal ministry of finance Patience Oniha said in an interview: "On travels alone, from a combination of our strategies, we will be saving N15 billion per annum." During a workshop with MDAs on flight discounts with DANA Airlines Limited, Ms. Oniha had also said: "We asked the Airlines to give us discounts using the government's large buying power. They offered us discount of 5-50 per cent."
