Ex – militant leader absolves colleagues over disruption ofNDDC meeting in PortHarcourt

- Ex-militant leader has absolved his colleagues over the disruption

of the meeting organised by the Niger Delta Development Commission

(NDDC) in Port Harcourt

- Eshanekpe Israel said former militants have grown beyond disrupting

programs saying right thinking former militants cannot cannot do so.

- He said it is street urchins and miscreants that disrupted the

program just as he described the Managing Director as a good manager

of resources

Former militant commander, Israel Eshanekpe, has said that the

disruption of a meeting summoned by the Managing Director of the Niger

Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Nsima Ekere, on Tuesday, was the

handiwork of miscreants and not former militants as being alleged by

uninformed members of the public.

Eshanekpe, in an email to CAMPUSNAIJA.info on Wednesday, explained

that the disruption of the meeting which was called by the

commission's Managing Director to investigate allegations of

corruption and contract racketeering, was condemnable even as he said

street urchins and miscreants who lurk around the commission's

premises were the brain behind the disruption.

According to him, no right thinking ex-militant would contemplate

disrupting a meeting organised by the NDDC, a commission he said is

anchoring a new vista of both human and material development in the

region.

He added that the interest of the region which has been in turmoil

over the years must be paramount in the minds of all Niger Deltans,

noting that without holding the region's interest in mind, development

will remain an illusion.

The meeting, which was organized by the commission, working with civil

society organisations, traditional rulers in Port Harcourt, was marred

by unruly youths who were not supposed to be part of the fact-finding

meeting put together by the commission.

CAMPUSNAIJA.info learnt that the meeting was summoned by Ekere to find

out what was true and what was not true about the allegations of

contract racketeering, in order to immediately tackle them and resolve

all issues concerned.

The committee was expected to work with interest groups like the civil

society and the media to ensure that its work passed the test of time

and inquiry.

In Ekere's leadership, Eshanekpe said, the region is well pleased and

urged him no to tarry in taking the region to the next level, adding

that that saboteurs are everywhere in the region to undermine the

efforts and achievements made by the commission.

He described Nsima Ekere as the best human and material resources

manager in the history of the commission, noting that except for a

person like Ekere managing the agency, development would remain

elusive to the people of the region.
